Kirkwood School District to Recommend Michael Romay to Serve as Chief Financial Officer
Dr. Tom Williams, superintendent of schools, will recommend to the Kirkwood Board of Education on Feb. 6 the appointment of Michael Romay as the chief financial officer (CFO) for the district effective July 1, 2012. Romay has served as the interim CFO since the beginning of the school year and the District’s director of accounting since 2001. Romay succeeds Mike Havener who was named the principal of Kirkwood High School for the 2011-12 school year.
Romay earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and received his Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license in 1997. Before joining the Kirkwood School District, Mike worked for Schowalter & Jabouri, PC, as an auditor and tax preparer. During this time, he performed the audit of the Kirkwood School District each year as well as audits for other area school districts. His professional affiliations include Association of School Business Officials, Missouri Association of School Business Officials and Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants.
According to Dr. Williams, the selection of Romay was a collaborative process that involved staff, parents and administrators.
“There were several outstanding candidates we interviewed for the position. Mike has done an outstanding job the past six months as interim CFO, and his experience and knowledge of the District will ensure the District continues to be fiscally responsible with the funds entrusted to us by our community,” said Williams.
