Firefighters evacuated residents of a Kirkwood Bluffs apartment unit Friday evening in response to a call about a possible gas leak. However, after investigating the unit located in the 2300 block of Timberview Road, Kirkwood firefighters determined that a gasoline spill outside a fresh air intake caused the building to smell like gas, according to Deputy Fire Chief Leo Meyer. Residents were able to return to their apartments by 7 p.m., about an hour after firefighters were first dispatched to the scene. Firefighters from Valley Park, Fenton and Des Peres assisted in responding to the call.
