Kirkwood High School Ranked 6th in State by U.S. News and World Report

Strong performance in AP exams and MAP tests earned KHS a Missouri top spot on the 2012 list of best public high schools.

 

The coveted U.S. News and World Report rankings of the best public high schools in America is out and Kirkwood High School has nabbed a top spot among those in Missouri.

KHS is the sixth best high school in the state, according to the rankings released Tuesday that are based on college readiness, math and English proficiency, and student to teacher ratio.

Here are the academic indicators for KHS, a U.S. News and World Report Silver Medal Winner:

  • National Rank: #666
  • College Readiness Index: 39.8
  • Algebra 1 Proficiency: 2.7
  • English 2 Proficiency: 3.3
  • Student/Teacher Ratio: 15:1

Algebra 1 and English 2 proficiency is determined based on student performance on Missouri Assesment Program (MAP) tests. The college readiness index is based on AP exam participation rates and percentages of students passing at least one exam. Student performance results in all areas can be found here.

The top 10 Missouri high schools, according to U.S. News and World Report are:

  1. Metro Academic and Classical High School
  2. Clayton High School
  3. Lincoln College Preparatory Academy
  4. Central High School
  5. Marquette High School
  6. Kirkwood High School
  7. Park Hill High School
  8. Lindbergh High School
  9. Rock Bridge Sr. High
  10. West High
