Religious Flash Mob Surprises Mall Shoppers [VIDEO]

More than 100 people broke into song at West County Center as Joseph, Mary and Baby Jesus made an appearance.

More than 100 people participated in a flash mob over the weekend to remind shoppers at West County Center of the religious significance of Christmas.

The majority of the mob included participants singing Christmas songs. The singing culminated in the appearance of the Holy Family.

Jennie Marino and two friends were behind the event that took place Saturday.

"I had seen a video done by a professional group of singers and thought it was a great idea. When I could not find a group doing something similar, I felt the Lord's leading to start one myself," Marino said.

The flash mob started with a post on Facebook on Nov. 30. Marino and other organizers were able to pull the performance together in less than two weeks, including two rehearsals with singers.

"We did not have prior permission since I was pretty certain the mall would object. Security was annoyed but no one got in any trouble. Everyone including the shopper audience had a great time and our mission was accomplished," Marino said.

Relive the flash mob through pictures and video of the performance. Tell us what you think of the flash mob in the comments section below.

I would call that carolers in a mall, not a flash mob.

A flash mob (or flashmob) is a group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual and seemingly pointless act for a brief time, then quickly disperse, often for the purposes of entertainment, satire, and artistic expression.

Courtney - The video did not capture the start of the flashmob, which would have shown that it was done according to regular flashmob guidelines. It also did not show much coverage of people dispersing but if you look closely you can see people leaving right after the singing stopped.
