Mary K. Moon Phillips (nee Appel) a longtime resident of Kirkwood, died peacefully on May 5 at nearly 94 years of age.

She was born May 8, 1918, and was very proud of her South St. Louis heritage. She attended Roosevelt High School, graduated from park College in Parkville and received her master’s degree from Webster University.

She lived in Kirkwood for 64 years where she taught elementary music in the Kirkwood School District for 30 years.

She was an active volunteer throughout her life, a passionate bridge player and skilled quilter. She was a loyal member of First Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood, on the board of Manor Grove retirement home, as well as president of the Kirkwood Teacher’s Association.

Her conviction to the unity and love of family, friends and community was a constant source of joy. She will be remembered by so many that feel blessed to have been able to share her life, and she will be missed by all.

She was pre-deceased by husbands Robert G. Moon and J.W. Phillips. She is survived by sister Dorothy Price (Hugh), children Michael Moon (Mary), Ann Schaffner (David) and David Moon (Karyn Pemberton), six grandchildren Patrick Coonce (Ruth), Adam Moon (Jen) and Erin Larosa (Paul) Marshall Moon, Taylor Moon (Hallie) and Gracey Moon plus step grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Bopp Chapel, Friday, May 18, 4:30-7 p.m. There will be a memorial service to celebrate her life Saturday, May 19, 1 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood. Reception follows in the church lounge. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood-Senior High Work Camp Mission Trip.
