Reader Spurs Evaluation of Kirkwood Intersection

MODOT says they'll give Kirkwood Road at Big Bend Road a second look after a Patch reader commented on the signal timing.

Turning left onto Big Bend Road from Kirkwood Road in the mornings can be—as one Kirkwood Patch reader put it—“irritating.”

“Only about four cars can make it through on the signal during one cycle,” Meg, a Patch user, said. “The arrow needs to be made longer.”

Meg uploaded her comment to Kirkwood Patch’s , designed to let neighborhood residents identify and, hopefully, find solutions for common problems, such as potholes, graffiti and dangerous intersections.

We took Meg’s comment to the (MODOT), who says they will give the light a second look. Over the next week, MODOT will study the traffic flow at Kirkwood and Big Bend roads and decide how to adjust the light to improve morning congestion.

MODOT set the timing for signal lights at that intersection in late 2010 and re-evaluated it last December, said MODOT spokesperson Kara Price.
