Laborers Picket Kirkwood Construction Site
A company contracted by the City of Kirkwood to work on water mains is not using union workers, and a group of laborers are making sure drivers know it.

Members of a local labor union have been picketing a Kirkwood construction site to call attention to the fact that a city contractor does not employ union workers.
Drivers may have seen members of Laborers' International Union of North America (LiUNA) Local 110 as they have passed by Marjean Court and Big Bend Road. ADB Utilities is performing water main work at the location.
The work is part of a $177,511 contract awarded to ADB that includes work between Robert Avenue and Marjean.
The informational picket by Local 110 includes signs that notify the public that ADB does not employ laborers from the Eastern Missouri Laborers' District Council at the construction site.
Kirkwood law does not require city contractors to employ union workers, but only that workers be paid the prevailing wage, Kirkwood Public Information Officer Beth von Behren told Patch.
Work at the site is expected to last through September, according to the City of Kirkwood.
Patch has a call into a business representative from Local 110 to learn more about the picket.
