Police: Bullet Pierces Window of Kirkwood Home

New Year's Eve partying could explain the potentially dangerous incident.

A Kirkwood resident woke up on the first day of the new year to a surprise: a large caliber bullet lying on a bedroom floor after it pierced the window of a home in the 1200 block of Ruth Drive.

According to this week's crime log from the Kirkwood Police Department, the bullet broke the dindow and damaged a window blind before landing in the bedroom. The resident was not home at the time. No one was injured.

So, how did the dangerous projectile end up in the home? It's possible that New Year's Eve partying could be to blame.

Kirkwood Police received a few reports of gunshots and/or fireworks from the area of the city Dec. 31 due to New Year's celebrations, Det. Dave Smith said.

Police are investigating the incident as an unlawful use of a weapon.

"Preliminary investigation has not uncovered anything that would indicate the victim was targeted," Smith said.
