A shoplifting attempt during last week's heat wave ended in a call to the Division of Family Services, according to Kirkwood police.

On July 4, officers responded to the 1200 block of South Kirkwood Road for a report of a shoplifter in custody.

Investigation by the officer revealed that the suspect had a 10-month-old child with him during the theft and had left his 6-year-old child alone in a vehicle while he was inside the store.

The suspect was issued a summons for stealing and the Division of Family Services was notified regarding the children.
