Children's Advocacy Center Opens Home for Training, Treatment

The home in Kirkwood acts as a training tool in handling child abuse situations.

The University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) teamed up with Children's Advocacy Services to open a staged home in Kirkwood for training in child abuse situations.

A release from the Kirkwood Police Department said the home of the new Children's Advocacy Center assists in therapy for children dealing with physical and sexual abuse and neglect.

The home, located at 121 West Monroe, also takes real-life scenarios and applies them in a mock situation for UMSL students and law enforcement teams to learn how to spot signs of abuse, according to a KMOV report.

As Patch previously reported, the West Monroe space was formerly home to Kids in the Middle. The Children's Advocacy Center works with children ages 3-17 in collaboration with UMSL's psychology department.

The Center held their grand opening in Kirkwood Aug. 23.
