Downtown Displays Encouraging Bright, Beachy Thoughts

Kirkwood businesses are preparing for spring with products geared toward warmer weather.

Although March will likely serve up some more gloomy, chilly days, stores in downtown Kirkwood are urging shoppers to think bright and beachy.

One of them is Down by the Station, an all-around gift store that is also celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Manager Mary Stevens said they have stocked one of their display windows with beach bags and cover-ups in vivid yellow hues.

"We are ready for spring break," she said.

Other spring items at the store include birdhouses that look more like bird condos or cottages with detailed architecture that exceeds the usual design. It's the first time carrying them, Stevens said.

She also pointed out flower seed packets, advertised as great Mother's Day gifts. For those in the retail business like Stevens, the holidays just keep coming.
