Get Out: Coffee Crawl, Garage Sales and Book Fairs

Rummage through this list and you'll find something to do in and around Kirkwood and Webster Groves this weekend.

1.
Where/When:
Historic downtown Maplewood, 9 a.m.-noon Saturday.
Why Go: Get your caffeine on and cultivate your coffee knowledge at the same time. This self-guided tour features coffee roasters demonstrating processes such as French Press, espresso and percolated. Maplewood coffee houses and local shops will offer complimentary treats.

Where/When:
Macy's lower level parking garage, 80 West County Center, Des Peres; 4-9:30 p.m. Thursday, which is opening night and includes an auction preview from 6:30-7:30 p.m., auction at 7:30; 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday; 9:oo a.m.-10 a.m. Saturday is shopping for persons with disabilities then 10-9:00 p.m. general admission; 11 a.m.- 6 p.m. Sunday.
Why Go: This is one of the country's oldest and largest charity book sales featuring hardback and paperback books, records, CD's and comics. Proceeds benefit literacy and education programs in St. Louis.
Pricing: $10 admission Thursday, free admission other days. Sunday is half-price day for purchases.

Why Go: Kids can enjoy performances of The Three Little Pigs and Little Red Riding Hood and play games and participate in arts and crafts activities.

Why Go: Enjoy pork steak or bratwurst plates with a choice of 2 sides: barbecue beans, cole slaw, American or German potato salad. Sandwiches and children's plates are available.

Where/When:

Why Go: The program showcases the best work from the School of Communication's film and video students.

6. TORNADO ALLEY
Where/When:
OMNIMAX theater, St. Louis Science Center, 5050 Oakland Ave.; 10 a.m., 1:oo, 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. Friday-Saturday; 1:00, 2:00 and 4 p.m. Sunday. (If you go Friday-Sunday call 314-289-4424 to reserve tickets as showtimes may sell out.)
Why Go: We've experienced it. This is filmmaker Sean Casey's quest to capture the birth of a tornado and take viewers into the heart of the storm. It's riveting and will definitely make you seek protective shelter next time you hear the warning sirens.
Pricing: $9 adults, $8 children/seniors

Where/When:
The list of participating individuals having garage sales will be given out at 8 a.m. Saturday on the Sunset Hills City Hall parking lot, 3939 S. Lindbergh Blvd and at the Crestwood Government Center, 1 Detjen Drive.
Why Go: It's that time of the year to shop for those special items you only find at garage sales. Then next year you put them out in your garage sale!
Pricing: Free

Where/When:
Crestwood Plaza parking lot, 180 Crestwood Plz.; 8 a.m. Saturday.
Why Go: More than 20 families pool their items to create this rummage sale. Proceeds benefit CHADS Coalition For Mental Health, a Mehlville-based nonprofit dedicated to preventing teen depression and suicide.
Pricing: Free admission

9.
Where/When:
3614 S Lindbergh Blvd. (former CompUSA store); Thursday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m.- 5 p.m. Sunday.
Why Go: The Friends Annual Book Fair is their largest fundraiser and offers thousands of books at bargain prices.
Pricing: Free admission. Sunday is 'Bag Day' when $5 buys a grocery bag full of books.

10.
Where/When:
, 3915 S Lindbergh Blvd.; 7-10:30 p.m. Saturday.
Why Go: Support their first trivia night! They provide healthcare to medically under-served children and families throughout St. Louis.
Pricing: $20 per person, $160 table of 8
