Book Bonds Families, Experts Educate at Kirkwood Library

In this week's , you're weekly dose of what's happening at the (KPL), we spot light free can't-miss events, including unique historical explorations and a story of personal strength.

KPL will be closed early on Wednesday, Nov. 23, at 5 p.m., and will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 24, for Thanksgiving.

The library will reopen Friday, Nov. 26, and resume regular Friday hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Because of the holiday, we have a quiet week, but make sure to stop in and get a good book or movie, to complete your Thanksgiving holiday. We have something for everyone!

WWII Communications, an Up-close Look

On Saturday, Nov. 26, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Mike Lavin, Kirkwood resident and avid collector, will share his unique collection of World War II communication artifacts. Mr. Lavin will be available for questions and demonstrations.  This hands on presentation features actual communication equipment used by soldiers on the front lines to talk with their superiors at headquarters.

Family Book Club: Small Steps Sure to Inspire

On Monday, Nov. 28, Family Book Club will be discussing Small Steps: The Year I Got Polio by Peg Kehret. This 1991 Mark Twain Award Winner, chronicles the author's struggle at age 12 when she got a severe case of polio. Kehret's hope and bravery is remarkable, as she reflects upon her months away from home and family, her slow recovery and finally learning to walk again. Light refreshments are served. For grades 4-6 and parents.

Missouri and the Civil War

Join us for a discussion of the Battle of Wilson's Creek led by Greg Wolk, author of A Tour Guide to Missouri's Civil War, as part of KPL's American Civil War Series. This presentation is a must for history buffs. Wolk is an expert on Missouri's role in the war, and his insights are certain to provoke lively conversaton.
