Patch Picks: St. Patrick's Day Celebrations

This week, we choose the five best places or ways to celebrate St. Patrick's Day

We bring you Patch Picks a little early this week, just in time to cover the best ways to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Whether it's with parades, drinking or a trip to our resident Irish gift shop, there's no excuse to not be sporting that green proudly tomorrow.

Here are our picks, but be sure to leave a comment and let us know what yours are.

  • Llywelyn's will be celebrating all day, with live Irish music by John Bartley from noon to 4 p.m., then Irish and Celtic folk music from the group Rusty Nail from 5 - 8 p.m. and 9 to close. No cover all night, and at some point the winner of the St. Patrick's Day Giveaway will be announced.
  • St. Patrick's Day Parade
Hosted by , the parade starts at 11 a.m. at the church and proceeds up Argonne. Pick a spot along the route to watch the floats, marchers and dancers go by. If you're lucky, you may even catch a treat or two.

  • Our very own slice of Ireland will have a selection of festive gifts and clothing for the special day, so stop by before the parade to get decked out in authentic Irish finery. There's a rumor that the Kind of Leprechauns will be making an appearance as well, to tell stories, take photos with kids and share treats from his pot of gold.

  • The Highlands' St. Patrick's Day party will feature a performance by Dr. O'Vegas (known on any other night as Dr. Zhivegas), plenty of drink specials and the regular ladies' night special of free wells and drafts for females after 8 p.m.
  • will be celebrating all day long. Come by in the morning for a hearty "Kegs and Eggs" breakfast of green eggs and ham, which goes wonderfully with the Bloody Mary special. Then, come back later for live music by Extremely Pointless.
