The Kirkwood Freedom Festival, sponsored by Des Peres Hospital, the City of Des Peres, Great Harvest Bread Co. and others, drew crowds to Kirkwood Park at the corner of Adams and Geyer. The park was full of children playing on the playground equipment, and the grass was covered with blankets, tarps and lawn chairs. Fanfare, featuring Kittie Moller, played at 7 p.m., and fireworks were set off at dusk.
