Photos: Kirkwood Gets Aquatic for Pooches
Dogs get the last swim at Kirkwood pool before the aquatic center closes its doors for the winter.
Summer might be on its way out, but the wasn't ready to shut its gates just yet.
Tuesday and Thursday, the Missouri Alliance for Animal Legislation (MAAL) sponsored its annual dog pool parties, where owners could pay $10 to let their canine friends swim with fellow pooches.
Former board member Jan Myers said MAAL has been hosting the swims for eight or nine years as part of a fundraising effort. All proceeds from this year's dog swims went toward lobbying the Missouri Legislature on issues such as puppy mills.

"We've probably been doing them the longest," Myers said.
Myers said roughly 200 dogs were present at the swim.

"But they're socialized, loved, trained dogs. There hasn't been a single accident," she said.
MAAL was founded 21 years ago to help change the laws in Missouri pertaining to animals.
