Trivia Night for Rebuilding Together Set for Aug. 12

Benefit will raise money for the Webster Groves-based group to buy materials for home improvements for St. Louis-area families in need.

Rebuilding Together St. Louis—headquartered in Webster Groves—will hold its sixth annual trivia night on Friday, Aug. 12.

Organizers are recommending intersted parties make reservations sooner rather than later since the event sold out early last year. The event will be held at the Electrician's Hall, 5850 Elizabeth in St. Louis.

“It's a gigantic event—a trademark event for us,” said Dave Ervin, executive director of Rebuilding Together. “We have the best trivia questions. We work hard to come up with great and interesting trivia.”

On a special day called "Christmas in April," the non-profit group will oversee 2,500 volunteers, who will repair between 65 and 100 homes located throughout the St. Louis area. On that day, they will paint, build wheelchair ramps, redo electricity, fix gutters, repair roofs, repair plumbing—anything to make a person's living environment more comfortable.

All the workers are volunteers, but the materials cost money. Although funds come from a variety of sources—including grants and both corporate and individual contributions—trivia night raises money vital to the organization.

“The economy hit people hard in terms of being able to handle the necessities,” Ervin said. “Some of these homes were built around the World's Fair, and they still have people living in them, but it's hard to keep them up. The numbers are increasing with more people needing help.”

Priscilla Visintine, a board member with the group, said there's still a limited number of Captain's tables available. Okay, we'll bite. What's a Captain's table?

“For $300, you and eight friends will enjoy tasty treats provided by Noodles & Company, free dessert and a waiter to fetch your drinks and to take your answer sheets to the judges every round,” Visintine said.

A regular table costs $200 and can seat up to 10 people. Admission includes beer, soda and snacks. The doors open at 6 p.m. with trivia starting at 7 p.m. To order tickets, call Cheryl Reale at 314.918.9918 ext. 21, or email creale@rebuildingtogether-stl.org.
