Walker Lake Renovations Complete in Kirkwood Park

Take a look at the lake's new look as the city preps for a ribbon cutting ceremony Monday.

Revamp efforts to Walker Lake in Kirkwood Park are being officially celebrated Monday with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Phase three of the project has been underway since last fall. Highlights of the project include:

  • New, ADA-compliant sidewalk around the lake perimeter
  • Lights along the walkway
  • Former lake island configured into a peninsula
  • Walker Lake turtle statues moved
  • Rain gardens and storm water control areas replace previous racquetball and handball courts; the courts will be constructed near the tennis courts in 2014
According to a release from the City of Kirkwood, the project is a component of the 2005 Parks and Recreation Master Plan. A half-cent sales tax benefits the parks and recreation department directly and pays for the related master plan projects.

The ribbon cutting ceremony at Walker Lake is scheduled for Monday at 6:30 p.m.
