Why Women Should Rule The World
Overcoming adversity, making history, showing grace under pressure, writing classic novels that forever affect us and raising children to be productive citizens – Kirkwood Public Library joins the nation this month in celebrating all that women have done and continue to do for our county.
Pay homage to women whose political aspirations and knowledge shape the future of our nation by reading such tomes as former White House Press Secretary Dee Dee Myers’ Why Women Should Rule The World (the title of which served as a great headline!), Sonia Sotomayor’s My Beloved World, and Condoleezza Rice’s No Higher Honor: A Memoir of My Years in Washington. Gabrielle Gifford’s struggles after her senseless shooting and her desire to bring about changes to prevent the ongoing violence in our society is documented in her book Gabby, A Story of Courage and Hope. Motherhood is always a topic of debate and the most recent uproar was over Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother by Amy Chua. Women have provided some of the best laughs in recent comedy history – just check out Yael Kohen’s We Killed: The Rise of Women in American Comedy. The hottest books of the past year were written by women, such as Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn or Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James. The contributions of women to society are as varied and complex as women themselves. The Kirkwood Public Library is a great source for titles by and about amazing women.
