Africa, South Pacific Hit Kirkwood Train Station

A reception Thursday evening will celebrate the wildlife photography of Jim Irwin, currently on display at the Kirkwood Train Station.

Wildlife photography has led veterinarian Jim Irwin, of Kirkwood, across the globe.

For the past 40 years, the animal lover has photographed nature and wildlife, including humpback whales in the South Pacific, eagles along the Mississippi River and safaris in Africa, according to a press release from the Kirkwood Area Arts Council.

The photographer—winner of a juror’s choice in the Vermont Photo Space Gallery’s exhibition In the Wild in 2010 and whose work has been featured in juried events of the Greater Saint Louis Art Association and Best of Missouri Hands—has traveled to Tanzania, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia and South Africa.

Thursday evening, he will land at the for a free reception to celebrate his wildlife photography currently on display at the Kirkwood landmark.

Learn about Irwin's motivation as a photographer and his travels at his website; view his work at the train station; and say hello to the wildlife documentarian and artist from 5:30-7 p.m. tomorrow at the train station.

Irwin's photographs are on display at the Kirkwood Train Station when the station is open for passengers through Aug. 29.
