"The French Connection: Impressionist Music and Jazz" at Webster University

Webster University's Music Department presents a concert of piano music featuring members of the jazz and classical music faculty called "The French Connection; Impressionist Music and Jazz." The concert will explore the influence of French Impressionist music on jazz composition and improvisation in the modern era. The concert will feature performances of representative works from classical literature and interpretations of pieces written by jazz composers whose writing was strongly influenced by French Impressionism. 
Among the works to be performed are "Le petit Negre," "L'isle joyeuse," "Reflets dans l'eau," "page d'Album" by Claude Debussy, "Prelude" by Maurice Ravel, "Le Pickadilly" by Eric Satie, "Scaramouche 'Brazileira'" by Darius Milhaud, "Reflections in D" by Duke Ellington, "Ju Ju" by Wayne Shorter, "Waltz for Debby" by Bill Evans and "Sunday Song" by Richie Beirach.

Performers include Daniel Schene, Director of Keyboard Studies; Kim Portnoy, Director of Music Composition and adjunct faculty members Pat Eastman, Carol Schmidt, Carolbeth True and Donna Vince.
