Webster University Presents a Special Concert to Honor Dennis Owsley, Jazz Radio Personality and Jazz Historian

Webster University presents a special concert honoring Dennis Owsley for the extraordinary gift of his lifetime collection of jazz recordings to the University. Owsley is a jazz radio personality, jazz historian, author, photographer and longtime supporter of the Webster University Jazz Program. Dr. Elizabeth Stroble, President of Webster University, will offer an appreciation on the behalf of the University for this generous gift.


An ensemble of jazz faculty and special guests will present a concert of "Musical Reflections on St. Louis Jazz History." The ensemble will consist of Paul DeMarinis-saxophones, Randall Holmes-trumpet, Steve Schenkel-guitar, Kim Portnoy and Carolbeth True-piano, Ric Vice-bass and Kevin Gianino-drums. 


The repertoire to be performed is either composed by or closely associated with St. Louis musical greats including Scott Joplin, Frank Trumbauer, Jimmy Blanton, Clark Terry, Miles Davis, Grant Green, Oliver Nelson, Julius Hemphill, and David Sanborn. Repertoire will include "Solace," "Singin' the Blues," "Body and Soul," "Didgits," "Fran Dance," "Jean La Fleur," "Patterns," "Hard Blues" and "Lisa."
