Patrons accustomed to shopping at Dierbergs likely will be surprised when they visit the new Dierbers location that opens Tuesday in Des Peres. At least that's the hope of Dierbergs.
“Our intent was to meet and then exceed customer expectations of what makes a store a Dierbergs store,” Dierbergs president Greg Dierberg said in a news release. “So we focused on areas of growing interest such as meal convenience, wine selection, culinary education, and health and wellness. The result is a store designed not only to be shopped but also experienced.”
Dierbergs spokesman Todd Vasel said the new store would have all the usual Dierbergs’ services and features, plus more, including a mezzanine-level dining area, an Evening Tap for beer-lovers, wine-tasting stations and an “impressive” produce market.
Dierberg also touted the “green” practices he said the store incorporated, including a rainwater-harvesting tank that recycled rainwater to irrigate grass and landscaping.
According to a news release, other highlights of the new store include:
- Three French Hens, an offshoot of a Wildwood boutique known for European antiques, home furnishings and accessories.
- A full-time cheese monger who will oversee an expanded domestic and international cheese section.
- Premium steak cuts of dry-aged beef, in addition to its all-natural line of USDA Choice, Midwest Raised Angus Beef.
- A St. Luke’s Convenient Care clinic staffed seven days a week.
- A “Wellness Team” to promote healthy-eating programs, as well as provide culinary assistance for people with specific dietary restrictions.
- A remote pharmacy drive-thru set up in the covered parking area that will use video cameras to connect customers with Dierbergs pharmacists.
- The Evening Tap, where customers can enjoy wine by the glass and bottled beer each evening.
- Wine-tasting stations where customers can purchase samples before they buy a whole bottle.
- Mezzanine-level entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights.
- Bento Asian Grill and Sushi Bar for takeout or eating in.
- Fresh-baked paninis and pizzettas, hand-tossed salads and baked subs.
- Bob’s BBQ, featuring apple- and cherry-wood smoked barbecue, smoked fresh daily in a smoker on the lot.
- A European-style bakery staffed by Dierbergs European pastry chef Katrina Meredith.
- Beginning Aug. 11, all -you-can-eat pancakes on Saturday mornings.
- Dierbergs Culinary Event Center, offering cooking classes, wellness programs, interactive wine tastings and other group events, managed by chef Marianne Moore, who came to Dierbergs from St. Louis’ Four Seasons Hotel.
