Name Game: Highlands Getting Customers Involved

Because of a legal dispute, the Highlands Brewing Co. in downtown Kirkwood is looking for a new name.

What’ll it be?

At the in downtown Kirkwood, they are serving up pints of craft beer and taking suggestions for a new name.

According to the company’s Facebook page, the Highlands has “come under some legal scrutiny” because of its name – apparently it’s the same as another brewery elsewhere. So this week, the Highlands announced a renaming contest on its Facebook page and so far more than 130 submissions have come in.

The brewpub is offering a free keg of beer to the winner.

Will it be 1853 Brewpub (a nod to Kirkwood’s founding date?) East Jefferson Alehouse (a nod to the brewery’s location on Jefferson Ave?)

How about Kirkwood Junction? Kirkwood Station? Pioneer Brewing Co? The Whistlestop? The Wood?

Or maybe one of the many other customer-generated ideas.

The first round of the contest ends on Sunday. The Highlands says it will catalog the results and narrow down the choices for round two starting Monday.
