Restaurant Inspections: Complaint for Taco Bell; Follow-Up for Squealers

Restaurant inspections are conducted by the St. Louis County Department of Health. Patch has a summary of the public reports affecting area eating and drinking establishments reviewed in August and September.

Grade rankings range from A (highest) to C (lowest). Report comments and explanations are provided in Patch's summary. Follow-up inspections are noted, other visits are routine.

Taco Bell,  2971 Dougherty Ferry Road
Inspection Date: Sept. 4 (complaint)
Grade: A (98) follow-up called for.
Complaint received for dead bugs on tables in dinning area. Observed multiple dead bugs on more than one table. Spoke to person in charge who stated that they are aware of an issue with the bugs flying in; issue has been observed on at least one other occasion. Person in charge shall provide effective pest control measures to prevent/minimize pest issues. Must contact pest control company and provide receipt and documentation of treatment for pest. Complaint is valid at this time. Correct by 09/16/13. Follow up will be conducted at that time.

Malone's, 8742 Watson Road
Inspection Date: Sept. 9
Grade: A (97)
Can opener blade heavily soiled with food debris. Food contact surfaces shall be clean to sight and touch. COS cleaned. Back kitchen door open upon arrival for inspection. All openings to the outside shall be protected against entry of pests. COS closed door. Potatoes for hot holding had internal temperature of 112F. Foods being held hot shall be at 135F or above. COS Reheated to 165F and holding hot at 157F. Raw chicken sitting in a pan of water in sink. Proper thawing methods shall be used for all potentially hazardous foods. COS Turned on water to run over pan of chicken continuously. Cooking equipment has grease accumulation and buildup. Cooking equipment shall be free of encrusted/grease deposits. Correct by 9-19-13. Storage racks for dry storage items soiled with grease/food debris. Stand up reach in freezer has food debris on inside. Walk in cooler floor also soiled with trash and debris. Non food contact surfaces shall be cleaned at a frequency to prevent buildup. Correct by 9-19-13. Both white cutting boards (small) are heavily scratched. Scratched cutting boards shall be resurfaced or discarded. Correct by 9-19-13. Caulking on dish station splash guard black and damaged. Fixed equipment shall be properly sealed. Correct by 9-19-13. 46 Walls throughout kitchen area soiled with food debris and splatter. Facilities shall be cleaned as often as necessary to keep clean. Correct by 9-19-13. Mop sitting in bucket while not in use. Mops shall be allowed to air dry when not in use. Correct by end of business today. Lights above grill area/cook line are blown out. Lighting intensity shall be adequate in food prep and service areas. Correct by 9-19-13.

McDonald's, 7259 Watson Road
Inspection Date: Sept. 9 (complaint)
Grade: A (100)
Manager stated air conditioning was down for 24 hours, but working fine now. Dining area clean during inspection. No sight of roaches today. Pest control comes monthly, no reports of sightings recently by pest control operator.
