Restaurant Inspections: Crushed Red Deals with Complaint; Olive Oil Shop Set for Opening

Restaurant inspections are conducted by the St. Louis County Department of Health. Patch has a summary of the public reports affecting area eating and drinking establishments reviewed in July.

Crushed Red, 140 S. Kirkwood Road
Inspection Date: July 30 (complaint)
Grade: A (100)
Caller complained of eating at establishment on 7/23/13. Establishment knows of complaint. She ate the emerald salad with a water and had diarrhea and vomiting symptoms later that night. 18 salads were sold that day and no other reports were made. Shrimp and salad ingredients are stored correctly and within temperature. Hand washing is done and recorded every hour. 

A no bare hand contact rule is in place. There are no sick employees. Shrimp comes in frozen, thawed, and held hot. Vegetable ingredients are in prep table and held at 41 degrees or below at all times. Ice machine is clean. There are no signs of getting sick from this establishment. complaint closed.

Olive Oil & More, 105 E. Argonne Drive, Kirkwood
Inspection Date: July 26 (opening)
Grade: A (100)
Home pest control sprays on premise. Pest controls shall be commercial and sprayed by a licensed pest control operator. COS disposed. See Plan Review; final inspection 7-26-13 for violations to be corrected. Will follow up in 30 days on plan review violations and certifications/Hep. A shots.

Dunkin' Donuts, 9860 Manchester Road, Rock Hill

Grade: A (98)
Cutting board heavily scratched with deep markings. Scratched cutting boards shall be resurfaced or discarded. Correct by 7-28-13. Caulk behind 3 compartment sink and back hand sink damaged and starting to hold black mold like substance. Fixed equipment shall be properly sealed. Correct by 7-28-13. 43 Back area hand sink leaking. Plumbing systems shall be in good repair. Correct by 7-28-13.

Fuzzy's Tacos, 8073 Watson Road, Webster Groves
Inspection Date: July 15
Grade: A (96)
Hand sink by back door had no hand drying provisions. Hand drying provisions shall be available at all hand sinks during hours of operation. COS provided paper towels. Container of raw eggs stored above containers of salsa/pico de gallo in RIC on line. Raw animal products shall be stored below all ready to eat foods. COS moved eggs.

Bags of chicken and beef in cold hold drawer in same pan with no divider or separation. Raw animal products shall be stored properly and separated by final cook temperatures. COS moved and separated meat. 15 Can opener blade heavily soiled with food debris. Food contact surfaces shall be clean to sight and touch. COS cleaned. 

Hanging fly traps being used in storage/dish area. 6-202.13 Insect control devices shall be properly installed. COS Removed fly traps from dishes storage area. Three bottles of window cleaner were stored in prep area without any means of identification. All chemicals stored out of its original containers shall be labeled with common name. COS labeled. 

Raw fish and raw shrimp were being thawed in prep sink filled with water at room temperature. Proper thawing methods shall be used for all potentially hazardous foods; under constant running cold water or in walk in cooler or by microwave oven. COS put shrimp under running water and fish in WIC. Large measuring cup with handle sitting inside the salsa container in WIC, in the food item.  In-use utensils shall be properly stored in between uses. Correct by end of business today. 

Gaskets of both WIC's and refrigeration units on the line are soiled with food debris and black mold like substances. Non-food contact surfaces shall be cleaned at a frequency to prevent buildup. Correct by 7-25-13. Hand sink by cooking equipment has leak from nozzle. Plumbing systems shall be in good repair. Correct by 7-25-13 46 Kitchen and storage area walls and floors all show some form of splatter or debris. Facilities shall be cleaned as often as necessary to keep clean. Correct by 7-25-13
