Restaurant Inspections: Kirkwood Pool Concession Stand, McDonald's Get the Once Over

Restaurant inspections are conducted by the St. Louis County Department of Health. Patch has a summary of the public reports affecting area eating and drinking establishments reviewed in late May and June.

Kirkwood Pool Concession Stand, 111 S. Geyer Road
Inspection Date: June 13
Grade: A (99)
Grease on walls behind cooking equipment. 6-501.12 Facilities shall be cleaned as often as necessary to keep clean. Correct by June 23.

McDonald's, 350 S. Kirkwood Road
Inspection Date: May 29 (complaint)
Grade: A (93)
There were no paper towels at the hand sink; corrected while present, replaced towels. Found 2 bottles cleaning chemicals by box soft serve brushes without labels-corrected while present. Facility not able to provide hepatitis A vaccine documentation for all employees. Hepatitis A documentation not maintained in a clear and concise manner. Basement sewer lines not completely guttered-need to gutter sewer lines in basement above food storage area and walkway for food transport gutter lines protect food stock; correct by next routine inspection. Floor tiles broken; replace broken floor tiles. Floor at walk-in cooler grout low collecting food and liquid debris need to raise level of grout flush with tiles so no collection occurs; correct by next routine inspection. New owner as of 3-1-13 has filed permit and plan review meeting; thinks complaint has come from unhappy employees.

Bandanas Bar-B-Q, 9500 Rock Hill Road

Ice scoop and pitcher in sugar container were sitting down in the food items. In use utensils shall be properly stored in between uses. COS moved to correct spot. Cutting boards in kitchen heavily scratched with deep crevices. Scratched cutting boards shall be resurfaced or discarded. Correct by June 15. Gaskets on reach in coolers on cook line heavily soiled with food debris. Non food contact surfaces shall be cleaned at a frequency to prevent buildup. Correct by June 15.

Caulk around dish station is missing and or damaged. Fixed equipment shall be properly sealed. Correct by June 15. Dipper well broken due to plumbing defect.  All equipment shall be in good repair. Correct by Oct. 2, 2013 or next routine inspection, whichever comes first. Walk in cooler racks soiled with food debris. Ice buildup around coils to fan units in walk in freezer. 4-602.13 Again non food contact surfaces shall be cleaned at a frequency to prevent buildup. Correct by June 15. 

Mops sitting in bucket as well as sitting on ground in smoker room while not in use. Mops shall be allowed to air dry while not in use. Correct by end of business today. Wall behind soda box stand soiled with syrup. Facilities shall be cleaned as often as necessary to keep clean. Correct by June 15.

Inspection Date: June 5 (follow-up required)
Grade: A (94)
Knife in holder on the wall soiled with food debris. Dish machine not sanitizing properly-reached 120F. All food contact surfaces shall be clean to sight and touch. Ware washing machines shall be sanitizing according to manufacturers specifications. Correct by June 11.

Exterior of refrigeration units in kitchen soiled with food debris. Gaskets on refrigeration units also soiled with debris. Microwave oven interior soiled with food debris. Hood vents of large grill in dining area soiled with debris and buildup. All non food contact surfaces shall be cleaned at a frequency to prevent buildup. Correct by June 15.

Caulking missing from dish station area and hand-washing sinks. All fixed equipment shall be properly sealed. Correct by June 15. Floors under storage racks in back are soiled with trash and debris. Walls in kitchen around dish station and near large grill in dining area soiled with food debris as well.

Facilities shall be in good repair and cleaned as often as necessary to keep clean. Correct by June 15. Mops sitting on ground while not in use. Mops shall be allowed to air dry when not in use. Correct by June 15.
