Restaurant Review: Elephant Bar Gets Follow-Up; Texas Roadhouse Has Complaint

Restaurant inspections are conducted by the St. Louis County Department of Health. Patch has a summary of the public reports affecting area eating and drinking establishments reviewed in late May and June.

Texas Roadhouse, 1220 S. Kirkwood Road
Inspection Date: June 17 (complaint filed)
Grade: A (100)
Caller complained about restrooms being out of repair and a reason to shut down business. After investigating the situation it is clear the restroom has been fixed. The situation was not properly diagnosed in the beginning causing an awful smell. Management made it clear no sewage was backing up but a smell was present. Piping and construction has been completed to fix the problem and no smell lingers. The establishment was aware of the issue and fixed any problems.

Boardwalk Cafe, 600 E. Lockwood Avenue
Inspection Date: June 10
Grade: A (98)
Back screen door being used with large gap at the top causing an opening to the outside. All openings to the outside shall be protected against entry of pests. COS Closed back door. Refrigeration unit on cook line has interior temperature of 54F. Cold holding shall be 41F or below. Removed all food items from unit. Owner is replacing unit next week.

COS Discontinuing use until replaced. Food container in kitchen holding food items with no label. Food storage containers shall be labeled with common name of food. COS labeled. Cutting boards in kitchen heavily soiled with dark markings and deep crevices. Scratched cutting boards shall be resurfaced or discarded. Correct by June 20.

Microwave oven soiled inside and outside with food debris. Reach in refrigerators and large refrigerators have food debris inside. Non food contact surfaces shall be cleaned at a frequency to prevent buildup. Correct by June 20. Gasket on ice machine and refrigeration unit by grill has broken gaskets. All equipment shall be in good repair. Correct by June 20.

Hole in wall in back kitchen area near mop buckets. Kitchen walls soiled with food debris. Facilities shall be maintained in good repair and cleaned as often as necessary to keep them clean. Correct by June 20, 13. Mop sitting in bucket while not in use. Mops shall be allowed to air dry after use. Correct by June 20.

Cyrano's Cafe & Wine Bar, 603 E. Lockwood Ave.
Inspection Date: June 17
Grade: A (93) (Follow-up required)
Can opener blade soiled with food debris. Food contact surfaces shall be clean to sight and touch. COS cleaned. 28 Sanitizer bucket in kitchen tested higher than 200ppm chlorine. Chlorine used to sanitize shall test between 100-200 ppm for food surfaces. COS Corrected level to 200 ppm.

Hep. A records not available for all current employees as well as not in clear and concise manner. Hep. A records shall be on site for all current employees and kept in a clear and concise manner. Correct by June 27.

Freezers in back storage area have heavy amounts of ice buildup inside. Microwave oven soiled inside and outside with food debris. Gaskets and exterior of freezers in back are soiled with debris. Non food contact surfaces shall be cleaned at a frequency to prevent buildup. Correct by June 27.

Bar area near coffee makers soiled with food debris as well as soda gun holder in bar area.  Non food contact surfaces shall be cleaned at a frequency to prevent buildup. Correct by June 27. Mops sitting in floor next to mop sink while not in use. Mops shall be allowed to air dry when not in use. Correct by end of business today.
