Russ’ Ribs Gives Breakfast a Shot
The owner of this farmer's market restaurant, however, says his focus will continue to be BBQ.
On a Sunday afternoon, Dick Russel, owner of Russ Ribs & BBQ Shack, stands in front of his BBQ pit where for the past hours he has been grilling and smoking a variety of meats, from ribs to bratwurst to steak. When I inquire about their new breakfast option he says, “meat is what we do.”
Russ’ Ribs & BBQ Shack, located at the Kirkwood’s Farmers’ Market, is now serving breakfast, although Russel says his emphasis is and always will be BBQ.
“It (breakfast) is OK. We do little bit; it’s more of an afterthought,” Russel said. “We figured a lot of people came in the morning so we wanted to offer something for them.”
Russ’ Ribs is open for breakfast from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and open for lunch from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m., or whenever they run out of food.
For breakfast Russ has egg and cheese sandwiches and egg wraps, (all of them with an option to add bacon, of course) along with hot coffee.
“I wish I could do more, but look, we only have a 10 by 10 space so there is not much room for more,” Russel said.
Russel said he hopes some people will try their breakfast, but wants everyone to try his pulled pork, which Russel says has a “secret family recipe.”
“Our juicy, slowly cooked pulled pork is the best in town,” Russel said. “Come try some.”
