VIDEO: Kirkwood Farmers' Market Grows With New Expansion on Earth Day

Kirkwood Living Green's Earth Day events helped introduce the Market Greenway expansion area, which aims to bring more business to the Downtown Kirkwood Special Business District.

Despite the gloomy weather, the Kirkwood Farmers' Market was lit up on Saturday, with a new extension area called the Market Greenway being introduced to the public and festivities throughout the day to commemorate Earth Day.

A collaborative effort between Kirkwood Living Green, (a non-profit devoted to promoting lifestyle choices that protect and conserve natural resources) and the Downtown Kirkwood Advisory Commission, the Greenway showcased various local vendors and their green solutions. Live music from Michael "Supe" Granda of the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, chicken and bunny costumes (along with real livestock) and plenty of organic hot tea added to the celebration on the the day before Easter.

We spoke with Mayor McDonnell, City Councilman Gerry Biedenstien, residents and vendors from Robinson's Rain Barrels and about what the expansion will do for business in the city, and the importance of living a green lifestyle.
