Comments from Patchland: Cicadas—a Tasty Treat?

This week's selection from the week in comments includes ideas for a new spot for wedding photos, griping about school district salaries and the joys of grandparenthood.

The week in comments brought a nice diversion from some of the serious stories we've dealt with and a chance to talk about lighter fare—including fairs. And eating cicadas. And cake. Nibble on some of these morsels, and if you're inclined to share your thoughts, click the links and chime in. We're all ears.

This pretty much sums up how we feel, too

"I would have a hard time living next to a hunting area because of the potential for accidents to occur."
— Layla Azmi Goushey, Eureka-Wildwood Patch

Let them eat and eat and eat cake

"My parents are certainly not the same people I grew up with. For example, my daughter is still under the impression that I must have had cake available 24/7 when I was growing up. My mom always has cake when my kids are there, and she does not mind if they select that as a meal replacement!"
— Patti Baratta, St. Peters Patch

Same song, different district?

"I am tired of losing young families in my neighbor due to the school district. I don't get it, Bayless was a great district, that's why we moved here. What happened?"
— Jenn Snethen, Affton-Shrewsbury Patch

"Before the district asks the community to consider a tax levy they should think about cutting the salaries of the superintendent and chief officers… Bayless teachers don't back down and stand your ground you all deserve it."
— Shirley, also Affton-Shrewsbury Patch

If they could scoop up after themselves, would that change your mind?

"I am not in favor of a dog park in Clayton. I like dogs, but creating a dog park takes away park land, and I do not believe there is enough park land in Clayton for a dedicated dog park."
— Fred Mced, Clayton-Richmond Heights Patch

Don't worry; there are plenty more frustrations where those came from

"I am honestly frustrated with the ratio of how many applications I filled out to the amount of scholarships I received... I can confidently say I filled out at least 75 application for various scholarships and only was honored by one! …My advice would be to make sure you click 'multiracial' as well as fill out every scholarship you can find even if you may barely meet the requirements."
— Mizzoulover, Mehlville Patch

Take THAT, Forest Park!

"What an amazing crown jewel Chesterfield has! I was blown away by the area behind the (new) amphitheater and how picturesque it's going to be come fall foliage time. I'd recommend brides and grooms check out the location for photographs."
— william harmon, Chesterfield Patch

Woulda, coulda, shoulda

"What a shame that we forfeited $400,000 in grant money over the lack of $100,00 in matching funds. This bike trail would have been a great addition to our city."
— Kim, University City Patch

This is an interesting way to put it

"It is a crime to take ‘AMW’ off the air because of so-called lack of funds. Just another effort to dumb down Americans."
— Winslow Kaalund, Hazelwood Patch

No, thank you; just ate. I couldn't take another bite

"The vet's office had a sign that read: 'Cicadas are high in protein and low in fat.' But who REALLY wants to eat one?
— Patti, Fenton-High Ridge Patch

See how YOU feel after four days worth of corn dogs

"Some of the folks who run the rides and carny games are friendly, many seem pretty grizzled, burned out and bored. In an age when kids play hyped-up video games, there seemed to be scant interest in the quaint and overpriced carny games. All in all, it seemed a rather joyless event. Maybe the other days were more energetic."
— gg, Creve Coeur Patch

One of the phone calls you don't want to get

"I love having this. Lets you sleep at night knowing you'll get a phone call if bad weather is approaching."
— Judy, Eureka-Wildwood Patch
