Reader Spurs Evaluation of Kirkwood Intersection

MODOT says they’ll give Kirkwood Road at Big Bend Road a second look after a Patch reader commented on the signal timing.

Turning left onto Big Bend Road from Kirkwood Road in the mornings can be—as one Kirkwood Patch reader put it—“irritating.”

“Only about four cars can make it through on the signal during one cycle,” Meg, a Patch user, said. “The arrow needs to be made longer.”

Meg uploaded her comment to Kirkwood Patch’s , designed to let neighborhood residents identify and, hopefully, find solutions for common problems, such as potholes, graffiti and dangerous intersections.

We took Meg’s comment to the (MODOT), who says they will give the light a second look. Over the next week, MODOT will study the traffic flow at Kirkwood and Big Bend roads and decide how to adjust the light to improve morning congestion.

MODOT set the timing for signal lights at that intersection in late 2010 and re-evaluated it last December, said MODOT spokesperson Kara Price.

If you have any neighborhood problems you want Kirkwood Patch to investigate, upload them onto our above.

So will MODOT look at the impact the new Mobil on the Run will have on traffic on Manchester and Geyer? The city refused to consider a Traffic Study recommended by the adjacent residents. At peak hours, that intersection is already a traffic nightmare. DOUBLE the size of it and what will happen? Remember there's no middle turn lane on that stretch of Manchester either...

Can you please "report" this issue on the map. Once you do, I'll put in a call to MoDOT.

Done, thank you!

Do take note the candidate for Mayor, Joe Godi, has suggested that "MODOT could intervene to prevent Mobil on the Run from exacerbating already bad traffic problems at Geyer and Manchester."
