Runners Make 'Mad Dash' for St. Peter's

Residents young and old turned out for the second annual St. Peter DASH 5K and Kids Fun Run last weekend.

With the high reaching 97 degrees Saturday, runners geared up for St. Peter DASH 5K and Kids Fun Run early in the morning. From babies to adults, participants gathered at the starting line to support .

"I support my parish and my friends who put together this wonderful race together, because this is one of the best races in St. Louis," said Stacey Kane, first place
winner of the woman's division.

For 23 years, Kane has been running and training for marathons. "I didn't (train). My regular base running helped," she said. "I run between 30 to 40 miles a week."

Her base running has helped her win first place in the woman's division two years in a row. As long as Kane is a part of St. Peter's Parish, she will continue to run in the 5K dash.

Jason Difano, another die-hard runner, came in first overall in the dash. For just a few years now, Difani has been running. During college, Jason swam on a local college team, and then began to lift weights until he was 60 pounds heavier than his current weight. He then began to bike and finally started to run so that he could lose the weight he gained.

"I'm more of a triathlete," Difani said. Along with this win, he has also won the Frozen Bun Run, which was his first win, and also won a half marathon. He could have won last year's 5K dash, but he tore his Achilles' tendon and was unable to run for six months.

Second place winner Will Rohlfing has been running for five years now. "My seventh-grade science teacher, Mr. Baldwin, said I should run." So every morning he wakes up to run. and he also ran in cross country and track while he was in high school.

"I only do a couple road races a year because I don't want to do too many," he said. Rohlfing has run in the MS 10K at , the Connection Run (5K) and the to (5K). To Will, "(Running) in a good way to stay in shape, and it's cool to push yourself."

The St. Peter's dash continues to bring the parish together through the friendly competition with friends, family members and the church community.
