Severe Weather Live Blog: April 28

St. Louis County was under a tornado warning until 6:30 p.m. We started live blogging as soon as we heard the tornado sirens in Kirkwood.

6:07 p.m. tornado sirens sound in Kirkwood. City is under tornado warning. Residents should take shelter. News reports indicate that the primary threat is near University City and Brentwood.

6:17 p.m. reports of hail in Richmond heights, Clifton heights, as well as reports of trees blown over. In Kirkwood, we're seeing heavy rains and thunder but no hail.

6:20 p.m. TV station reporting storm moving East of us. Still, tornado warning remains in effect for Kirkwood and St. Louis County until 6:30 p.m.

Here's official warning from National Weather Service. Kirkwood not listed as affected area:

AT 558 PM CDT...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM CAPABLE OF PRODUCING A TORNADO WAS LOCATED NEAR MARYLAND HEIGHTS...AND MOVING EAST AT 45 MPH. HAZARD...DEVELOPING TORNADO AND BASEBALL SIZE HAIL. SOURCE...RADAR INDICATED ROTATION. IMPACT...SIGNIFICANT HOUSE AND BUILDING DAMAGE POSSIBLE. MOBILE HOMES COMPLETELY DESTROYED IF HIT. SOME TREES UPROOTED OR SNAPPED. VEHICLES WILL LIKELY BE THROWN BY TORNADIC WINDS. * LOCATIONS IMPACTED INCLUDE... BRIDGETON...CREVE COEUR...FRONTENAC...ST. ANN...OLIVETTE...LAMBERT FIELD...LADUE...HAZELWOOD...OVERLAND...WOODSON TERRACE...ST. JOHN...BERKELEY...FLORISSANT...BRENTWOOD...KINLOCH...BEL-RIDGE... UNIVERSITY CITY...RICHMOND HEIGHTS...CLAYTON AND MAPLEWOOD.

6:23 p.m. Storm is pushing east of Kirkwood. Kirkwood, Des Peres, Glendale and Oakland are in the clear. Tornado and large hail still threat. Storm moving into St. Louis City.

6:30 p.m. Tornado warning expires. No confirmed reports of touchdowns. Large hail reports around University City and St. Charles. Cell moving into Downtown St. Louis. Fox2Now reports 100 injuries and one fatality as result of tent collapse in Downtown St. Louis. Kirkwood Patch is out of basement and signing off.
