Did you know that the Urban Dictionary describes teen angst as severe depression resulting from stress, anxiety or loss that parents fail to recognize or understand? Normal teenage emotions are different from depression and anxiety, but it can be difficult to see the difference and know when it’s necessary to take action.
Ken McManus, M.Ed., LPC, will describe the emotional ups and downs teenagers experience, ranging from normal disappointment and sadness to depression and other serious situations, that may indicate that it’s appropriate to seek counseling and/or medical advice. Abigail Maixner, M.Ed., LPC, with Preferred Family Health, will talk about how counselors work with students and families in Kirkwood schools. Kirkwood School District representatives will present Safe and Sound and the District’s efforts to provide information and resources that families can utilize when needed.
This event is free. Parents, students and the community are welcome.
