BBB Expels Metro St. Louis Construction, Charged Earlier With Stealing

The Better Business Bureau has revoked the accreditation of Metro St. Louis Construction, a company that has taken money from consumers and not completed work on their homes.

The Better Business Bureau this week revoked the accreditation of Metro St. Louis Construction, a contractor that was charged with felony stealing in St. Louis County for taking $6,200 in insurance money from a consumer and never doing the work.

The BBB warned St. Louis area consumers about Metro St. Louis Construction and its owner, Benjamin Lee Gaddy of Washington, Mo., in a press release issued  March 25.  The BBB suspended Metro's accreditation in March after noticing a pattern of complaints. The BBB has closed 15 complaints against the company.

Because Metro St. Louis Construction failed to respond to the complaints and resolve them, its BBB rating fell to an F, the lowest rating. BBB Accredited Businesses must maintain a B rating.

BBB Accredited Businesses are required to respond to customer complaints and BBB inquiries, to make a good faith effort to resolve complaints and to honor arbitration decisions. Failure to do so is considered prejudicial to the best interests of the BBB and private enterprise.

Expulsion from accreditation status is unfortunate. However, the BBB takes enforcement of its standards very seriously. Applicants for BBB Accreditation also must meet BBB standards. They can be denied accreditation if they fail to comply.
