Singers in Training
As I write this, KCC's Concert Choir is meeting for the first time this season. This is the start of KCC's 22nd season. In that time we have trained thousands of young singers from over 50 schools throughout the St. Louis area. Also in that time, those kids have made lifelong friends and performed before audiences most elementary and middle school aged children could only dream about.
How did those kids become members of KCC. How did they become "Singers in Training"?
Simply, their journey started with an audition.
Some auditioned by themselves. Some auditioned in small groups. All were a little nervous. For some, this was their first audition. For many it was the first of many auditions.
The first thing you need to know about a KCC audition is to ignore what you see on TV. We don't have "that guy". Our directors nurture the children from the first audition to their final concert. The second thing you need to know about a KCC audition is it is easy. The children will be asked to sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Happy Birthday, match pitch and match some rhythm patterns. The child might also be asked to hold their part in a round. It is designed to put the least amount of pressure on the child.
Years after her first audition, a KCC alumn commented that all the auditions she had with KCC helped prepare her for the auditions she went to in high school. My daughter, also a KCC alumn, couldn't understand why people were so nervous about their college audition.
Guess what? KCC has room for you and your child. There is still time to schedule an audition for this season. Call 314 803-2007 to schedule an audition. We have some very impressive events on our calendar. We are singing at a Cardinals/Mariners game. We are singing with the St. Louis Philharmonic. We have several outreach concerts planned throughout the area. We also have our own concerts in the fall, winter and spring. For the older kids, we also have tours planned for next spring.
There is no better time to join KCC, prepare yourself musically for high school and beyond and make some great friends and memories along the way.
