And The Award Goes To... Celebrate Awards Season With Free Books and Movies

As you prepare for the upcoming Oscars come to Kirkwood Public Library for red carpet treatment and discover all kinds of movie-related treasures.  Just inside our doors you will find the Hot Reads section, which holds a plethora of books that are current movie-tie-ins (Les Mis, Life of Pi, The Savages).  Next you’ll come upon our Hot DVDs, where you’ll find current nominees as well as recent winners and those overlooked gems.  Still looking for more movies?  Head on over to the regular DVD collection, where there are many, many award-winning films from years past (try Jimmy Stewart’s Oscar winning performance in The Philadelphia Story).  Don’t forget the Biography section, where you can find books on Hollywood insiders (my most recent favorite is Penny Marshall’s My Mother Was Nuts). Upstairs in the nonfiction section there are books about the awards themselves (Bringing Up Oscar), and the film industry (Conversations at the American Film Institute with the Great Moviemakers).  Finally, take a couple of hours to sit back and watch a classic here, at KPL Cinema (popcorn provided!).

This year there are TEN movies nominated for Best Picture (Amour, Argo, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Django Unchained, Les Misérables, Life of Pi, Lincoln, Silver Linings Playbook, Zero Dark Thirty) – who do you think will win?  What book do you think would make a great movie?
