What to say to mom who criticizes your weight all the time

How to deal with mothers who expect their children to look a certain way and won't stop until they get a carbon copy of themselves!

You know the drill; Your mom can't even walk in the door without mentioning how "those pants don't fit the same anymore." Those little digs can be hurtful, and often, downright mean. So, what do you say to a mom who claims to mean well, but may be harboring deep resentment because you are not the spitting image of her!

That's basically what it is. Some parents think their kids should be mirror images of themselves, when in reality kids are their own beings, not a carbon copy of you. That's for another therapy session. The problem right now is, how do you deal with her onslaughts every time she hasn't seen you in a while?

I would become like a broken record and constantly repeat, "Mom, it really hurts me when you criticize my weight." And then quickly change the subject. And don't vary from the routine. Because after a while, she will realize that she is not getting through and why bother?

It could be that you are not heavy at all. And even if you are morbidly obese, it doesn't help matters when she lays into you every time your within eye sight. She wants you to be a certain image. But she has to get used to the fact that you are who you are, and whether or not you lose weight is up to you...only you, not her.
