SHAKE38 Introduces Blind Shakes as Part of the Citywide Marathon Reading of Shakespeare's 38-Play Canon

The Bard's words will electrify the city with the fourth annual SHAKE38 April 19-23

The stage was set -- the robust fire was shooting warm flames into the cozy bar; the couches arranged comfortably around it.  The five actors walked into the bar.  Waiter Josh Mefford joined them.

The six were St. Louisans who just happened to drop into Sasha’s on Shaw and invited to participate in a reading of a Shakespeare play as part of the fourth annual SHAKE38 citywide reading/performance of the Bard’s 38-play canon.  The event kicked off yesterday and will culminate on Shakespeare’s 449th birthday Tuesday, April 23.
The group at Sasha’s read from Shakespeare’s Troilus and Cressida.

Five inaugural Blind Shakes were added to this year’s schedule, including the one at Sasha’s. The citywide SHAKE38 marathon reading is limited only by one’s imagination.  More than 300 St. Louisans will recreate the Bard’s work in various settings.  In addition to Sasha’s, other events will include a myriad of theatre groups, students, and even an underground restaurant group reading Shakespeare’s words on truck beds, in libraries, museums and the canoes at Forest Park’s Grand Basin.

All the events are free and open to the public.  For a detailed schedule of SHAKE38 events, please visit www.sfstl.com/whats-on/shake-38/.
