Meacham Park Back To School Rally

For many families back to school can bring additional stress to a struggling family’s budget.  On Saturday, August 17, 2013, the Meacham Park Neighborhood Improvement Association held a Back to School Rally and provided students with 150 backpacks stuffed full of school supplies.

The rally not only provided back to school items but also provided parents and their school age children with information and resources that will prepare them for student success in the new school year, including information concerning mentorship, tutoring, and science promotion programs.

Jeremy Jones, the event’s organizer noted, “We are here to serve the people of our community.  If we see certain needs we rally the community together to fill those needs.   Today we have gathered the community together to help our youth head back to school with a positive start and increase their chances for educational success and a bright future.”

The event was a huge success due to the many contributors including, The Jeremy Macklin Foundation, Elliot Chapel Unitarian Church, Mercy Retreat Center, Laura Griesdick, The Kirkwood R-7 School District, and The Keep Watching 50 Foundation; as well as appearances by Tom Williams, Kirkwood School Board Superintendent, and Darnell Frost, newly elected Kirkwood School Board Member.  Many thanks for their kindness and generosity!

The Meacham Park Neighborhood Improvement Association will continue to collect school supplies throughout the year.  If you would like to donate please contact the Association at 314-822-8814.
