Kirkwood Alumni TE Mike McNeill Makes Cut With St. Louis Rams

2006 Kirkwood graduate Mike McNeill is on the active roster for his hometown St. Louis Rams team as a tight end.

All NFL teams had to cut their rosters to 53 players by 8pm (CST) on Friday. The 2006 Alumni was one of four tight ends on the St. Louis Rams roster.

McNeill knows nothing is guaranteed. He made the Indianapolis Colts 53-man roster last season before bouncing between the active roster and practice squad most of the season. McNeill signed with the Rams for the final two games of the 2011 season.

McNeill had a prolific career at the University of Nebraska. He owns both the season and career reception records for tight ends in school history. McNeill finished his Husker career with 1,072 yards and 11 touchdowns.

McNeill owns just about every TE receiving record at Kirkwood High School. He recorded 44 catches for 806 yards as a Junior and 33 catches for 665 yards as a Senior. In his Pioneer Football career, McNeill piled up a total of 97 catches for 1816 yards.

McNeill's longest career reception was a 77 pass from fellow NFL player Jeremy Maclin in a 2005 high school game vs. Parkway South. Maclin is preparing for his fourth NFL season as a wide receiver with the Philadelphia Eagles. Maclin and Desean Jackson comprise one of the most dangerous WR tandems in the National Football League.
