Winner Goes To The Dome: Kirkwood vs. Parkway Central

Kirkwood (11-0) travel to Parkway Central (11-1) to battle for a trip to the State Championship Game at the Edward Jones Dome against either Ozark or Fort Osage the following Friday.

Kirkwood (11-0) will travel to Parkway Central (11-1) for a second time this season on Friday, November 16.  The Class 5 semifinal game will kickoff at 7:00pm at Parkway Central High School at 369 North Woods Mill Road in Chesterfield (directions).  The winner of the game will face Fort Osage or Ozark on Friday, November 23 at the Edward Jones Dome.  A full playoff bracket can be viewed on MSHSAA.org

October 12: Kirkwood 28 - Parkway Central 2
The Pioneers handed the Colts their only loss five weeks earlier at Parkway Central.  Kirkwood jumped out to a 28-2 lead at halftime lead by amassing 250 yards of offense and stopping the Colts twice on fourth down.  The stout Pioneer defense - led by LB Jarrod Bishop's 13 total tackles, sack and key interception - made the lead hold up.  His brother, QB Jordan Bishop, set the pace for the offense with 183 passing yards and two touchdowns.

Parkway Central Preview
Like Kirkwood's other playoff opponents (Hazelwood East, Webster Groves and Summit), the Colts rely heavily on their rushing attack and smothering defense.  In their 11 wins, they averaged 259 rushing yards (over 6 yards per carry) and 9 points scored against them.  To upset the Pioneers, they must improve on the three yards per carry on offense and 28 points that they conceded in the first matchup.  Key Parkway Central Players:

  • RB Augie Brooks (#21) - 1561 rushing yards & 10 TDs
  • RB Michael Slater (#7) - 436 rushing yards & 11 TDs
  • DE/TE Jonathan Bonner (#86) - 12 sacks & 7 receiving TDs
  • LB Miles Dvorak (#92) - 113 total tackles, 2 sacks & 1 fumble recovery

Kirkwood Preview
The Pioneers have trailed in all three of their playoff games before staging progressively crazier comebacks capped by Andrew Phillips' 29 yard FG with 12 seconds left to beat Rockwood Summit 33-31.  The Pioneers QB Jordan Bishop distributes the ball to a seemingly endless supply of wide recievers and running backs.  8 different recievers have caught TD passes; 10 players have scored rushing TDs.  Key Kirkwood Players:

  • QB Jordan Bishop (#7) - 1703 passing yards, 23 TDs & 4 INTs
  • RB Ramon Alton (#33) - 795 rushing yards & 10 TDs
  • LB Jarrod Bishop (#4) - 73 total tackles, 3 sacks & 2 INTs
  • LB Blake Goddard (#15) - 67 total tackles, 4 sacks & 3 fumble recoveries
