Panelists Announced for 2013 State of St. Louis Workforce Report

St. Louis Community College Chancellor Myrtle E.B. Dorsey and Roderick Nunn, the college’s vice chancellor for economic development and workforce solutions, will be joined by a panel of executives from high performing companies in the financial services, healthcare, advanced manufacturing and transportation industries for the 2013 State of St. Louis Workforce Report, slated for Aug. 7 at the Missouri Botanical Garden, 4344 Shaw Blvd. 

Joining Dorsey and Nunn on the panel will be:

  • Brian Ashworth, principal, Human Resources, Edward Jones
  • Keith Darling, president, AEP River Operations
  • Herb Homeyer, president/owner, Homeyer Precision Manufacturing
  • Debbie Walkenhorst, regional vice president, Human Resources, SSM Health Care St. Louis

Alan Spell, research manager, Missouri Economic Research and Information Center, will present the 2013 research. The panelists then will have an opportunity to discuss and respond to the results of the employer and student survey that examined workforce issues such as:

  • Jobs in the region
  • Skills gap in St. Louis
  • Labor market value of degrees and certificates
  • Comparison of online versus traditional degrees
  • Employers’ preference between experienced workers and highly-skilled new graduates
  • Effect of the Affordable Care Act on employment levels

This annual event, a St. Louis Business Journal seminar presented by STLCC’s Workforce Solutions Group, begins at 7:30 a.m. with networking and a continental breakfast. The program begins at 8 a.m. and concludes at 10 a.m. 

“We are pleased that this distinguished panel of leaders will join us to respond to this unique workforce intelligence report that has been presented to the St. Louis region for five consecutive years,” Nunn said. “I look forward to collaborating with our panelists, as well as other business and community partners, in utilizing these research results to proactively advance our region.”
