STLCC Nursing Student Receives Goddard Scholarship

Tammie Snyder, a nursing student at St. Louis Community College-Florissant Valley, recently received the Susan K. Goddard Nursing Scholarship. Snyder was one of three students who received a $500 award.

“The most exciting thing is that they made an effort to tell me that they hope I accept a job at Children's Hospital when I graduate,” said Snyder. “It was very exciting.”

Snyder, who lives in south St. Louis County, said she had some unexpected classes to take this summer and the scholarship money helped pay for her summer classes.

The Susan K. Goddard Nursing Scholarship is offered by St. Louis Children’s Hospital and is open to all St. Louis metropolitan area schools of nursing. In order to qualify, nursing students must have entered their final year of school in fall 2011, be interested in the field of pediatric nursing, have a minimum grade-point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, and agree to work as an RN at St. Louis Children’s Hospital for one year after graduation. In addition, nursing students cannot be licensed as an RN when applying for the scholarship.

Recipients can be awarded up to $3,000 toward the cost of tuition, which will be paid directly to the school. The scholarship winner is announced in May during Nurses Week.

Established in 1962, St. Louis Community College is the largest community college district in Missouri and one of the largest in the United States.  STLCC has four campuses – Florissant Valley, Forest Park, Meramec and Wildwood – that annually serve more than 81,000 students through credit courses, continuing education and workforce development programs.  For more information about STLCC, visit
