DEA, Kirkwood Police Join Forces to Stop Prescription Drug Abuse
Officials hope a drug take back event later this month will put a dent in pill abuse and theft.
The will host a prescription drug take back event on Oct. 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Kirkwood Police Department. The department will accept unwanted prescription drugs at the rear of the Police Department building.
This is a national event sponsored in cooperation with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The serice is free and anonymous and police will not ask participants questions about deposited medication.
The purpose behind the drug-take-back is to prevent pill abuse and theft by residents ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs, according to a statement from the DEA.

In April, a similar drug-take-back brought out more than 270 visitors to the Kirkwood Police Department with the event netting more than 449 pounds of pills and liquid medications for disposal, according to the Kirkwood Police Deparment.
