Driver's Blood-Alcohol Content Was Five Times Legal Limit, Police Say

Kirkwood Police said they tested the 24-year-old woman and measured her blood-alcohol content at 0.41 percent. The legal limit is 0.08 percent.

The following information was supplied by court documents. It does not indicate a conviction where an arrest was made.

A 24-year-old woman, who was pulled over for weaving and speeding on Interstate 44 Sunday, had a blood-alcohol content more than five times the legal limit, according to Kirkwood Police.

Leslie Schwend, 24 , of Cedar Hill, was charged Monday with driving while intoxicated as a persistent offender, a felony. She faces her third alcohol-related driving charge in six years after being pulled over in Kirkwood.

Kirwood Police said officers pulled Schwend over on westbound I-44 near Holmes Avenue Sunday for speeding and weaving on the roadway. Officers said she did poorly on a field test and took a breathalyzer test.

The test indicated her blood-alcohol level was 0.41 percent, according to a probable cause statement by Kirkwood Police. The legal limit is 0.08 percent.

Schwend has two previous convictions for impaired driving. She pleaded guilty in 2007 to driving with excessive blood-alcohol content on Aug. 4, 2006. She also was convicted in 2009 for DWI on Oct. 24, 2008.

Schwend was released from St. Louis County jail Monday. Bail was set at $20,000.
