Kirkwood Man Faces Third Impaired Driving Charge

A Kirkwood man faces charges for his third alcohol-related driving offense in St Louis County.
Lee J. Carpenter, 56, of the 300 block of Nelda Avenue in Kirkwood, was charged May 17 with driving while intoxicated as a persistent offender. He has two previous impaired driving convictions.
St. Louis County Police said Carpenter was pulled over for a traffic violation by an officer at 11:46 p.m. March 1 near the intersection of Marshall Road and Tree Court Industrial Boulevard. The area is just southwest of Kirkwood.
The officer said he noticed a strong odor of alcohol on Carpenter’s breath. Carpenter was arrested after performing poorly on sobriety tests, according to a court document.
Carpenter previously was found guilty in 2009 of DWI in Kirkwood, and he pleaded guilty in 1985 to driving with excessive blood-alcohol content in St. Louis County.
Carpenter was arrested Tuesday after charges were filed, posted 10 percent of a $5,000 bond and was released.
