Kirkwood Man Gets Fourth DWI After Hitting Retaining Wall, Leaving Scene, Police Say

William R. Booth was charged with DWI as an aggravated offender. He has three previous alcohol-related driving offenses.

A Kirkwood man who struck a retaining wall in Glendale attempted to leave the accident scene and now faces a felony drunk driving charge, police said.

William R. Booth, 44, of the 1000 block of Barry Court in Kirkwood, was charged with driving while intoxicated as an aggravated offender and leaving an accident scene. Booth has three previous alcohol-related driving convictions.

Glendale police said a witness saw Booth’s car swerve across the road and strike a retaining wall at about 1:20 a.m. July 1 in the 400 block of North Berry Road. The witness said he left the accident scene. Glendale police pulled Booth over in the 1300 block of Beverly Avenue.

An officer said he smelled a strong odor of alcohol and said Booth had bloodshot eyes. Booth refused a sobriety test and a Breathalyzer test and was taken into custody.

Booth was arrested Sept. 3 after charges were filed. He posted a $1,500 cash bond the same day and was released.
