Kirkwood Resident Returns Home to Reported Burglary in Progress

Kirkwood police are investigating after a resident returned home to hear the dog barking and footsteps in the basement.

The following information was provided by the Kirkwood Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction. 

Monday, Feb. 11:

At 3:15 p.m., officers were called to the 500 block of West Essex Avenue for a possible burglary in progress. Investigators said a resident returned home to find the front door unlocked and the family dog barking in the basement. The resident the reportedly retreated into a bedroom, heard footsteps from the basement and then heard the front door slam shut. The resident called police and it was determined that nothing was stolen. Authorities are still investigating.
